Mark Lantrip serves as the chairman, president and chief executive officer of Southern Company Services. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the company’s unregulated and innovation business strategies, and oversees Southern Company’s industry-leading R&D organization and its development of new technologies for the generation, delivery and use of energy.
Lantrip also leads Southern Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company. Southern Power is America’s premier wholesale energy partner meeting the needs of municipalities, electric cooperatives, investor-owned utilities, and large commercial and industrial customers with one of the fastest growing clean energy portfolios in the U.S. He also oversees PowerSecure, Southern Company’s distributed infrastructure development company. PowerSecure is a leading developer of microgrids and resiliency products to commercial and industrial customers nationwide.
Lantrip joined the company in 1981 as an analyst at Gulf Power and progressed through increasing levels of responsibilities at Georgia Power and Southern Company Services.
Prior to assuming his current role in 2014, Lantrip served as executive vice president of finance for Southern Company Services and Southern Company treasurer with responsibility for financial planning and analysis, enterprise risk management, trust finance, capital markets and treasury.
Lantrip is co-chair of the Institute for Electric Innovation, an Institute of the Edison Foundation focused on advancing the adoption of innovative and efficient technologies among electric utilities and their technology partners that will transform the power grid.
He chairs the board of The Alliance for Transportation Electrification, a broad and diverse coalition of organizations that advocate for an acceleration of transportation electrification in all states across the country.
Lantrip holds a bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University and a master's degree from the University of West Florida. He and his wife Lisa have two children and four grandchildren.
